How fast is crazy fast?
9.58 seconds.
Usain Bolt broke his own 100 metre world record at the IAAF World Track & Field Championships in Berlin on Sunday. It isn’t the 9.55 that Norwegian physicist Hans Eriksen estimated Bolt would have run in Beijing if he hadn’t started celebrating his win 20 metres before the finish line, but he’s close. I think I may add pureed yams to my beetroot juice. Zoom zoom.

Very cool. I can’t even imagine going that fast!
What an amazing performance from Mr. Bolt! Thanks for sharing.
Not bad, but how about this guy – 400 meters in 3:20, at 95 years old. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/08/19/us/19athletes.html?hpw
That is awesome. I love that his “doping” is diabetes meds, blood pressure meds, and viagara! I don’t love that I’m in the same division (“masters”) as the 95 year old!
I have been thinking about this guys time for 400 meters. I think many recreational runners can run this distance in twice time of the world record holder and in half of this 95 year old’s time. So spanning all runners across the two extremes of age and running ability, many “average” runners are right in the middle, and the extreme oldest still has about 25% of the capability of the worlds fastest young runner. Kind of encouraging.
Very encouraging, especially given the short distance (as the long distances tend to be more favourable to the aging runner).
